DES Arts was set up in 2004 under the artistic direction of DES founder, Mdm Yan Choong Lian and trained under Ms Yap Guat Khim, Ms Sharon Low, Ms Gan Meiling and Ms Lim Mei Chian. Over the years, DES Arts has acquired a distinctive identity in the local arts scene with its diverse performing styles-the fluidity of Chinese classical dance reinterpreted in a contemporary context and combined with the swift dynamism of the Wushu technique. With four seasonal productions per year, the company is actively involved in the promotion of the culture and the arts. DES Arts performers have rich performing experience as they are often sent overseas for dance workshops and performance and have since worked with many internationally renowned choreographers like Ms Zeynap Tanbay (US), Mr Lin Kun Yang (US), Mr John Mead (US), Mr Gideon Obarzanek (Australia), Mr Ying Er Ding (Macau), Ms Janis Brenner (US) and Mr Kevin Wynn (US). Recently, DES Arts has been invited to stage a performance at the renowned “Painted Bride Theatre” in June 2009.
