Our Story
Dance Ensemble Singapore was founded with a vision to celebrate and promote the rich tapestry of Chinese dance in Singapore. Our mission is to inspire and connect communities through the universal language of dance. Over the years, we have grown from a small group of passionate dancers to a renowned sized ensemble recognized for our innovative performances and dedication to cultural exchange.
Dance Ensemble Singapore (DES) was founded in July 1993 with the aim to present multi-faceted dance styles and genres constantly explored by the professional core company, DES Arts, and the Performing Arts Academy. In an effort to convey the cultural message infused in our Chinese arts and culture, DES strives to expand its field of dance and thus has engaged in numerous major performances, such as Singapore Arts Festival, ASEAN Dance Festival, National Day Parade, Chingay Parade and many more. DES has also represented Singapore on diverse international cultural exchanges and festivals in varying capacities.
DES hopes to transcend boundaries in the promotion of Chinese dance and culture. Through nurturing the next generation of practitioners, spreading cultural values and innovation, DES continues to present works that embodies the spirit of excellence, wisdom and depth.
新加坡聚舞坊成立于 1993 年，聚集了多类别舞蹈于一坊的舞蹈团与舞蹈学院，拥怀着传递华族文化艺术的使命，多次筹办且参与多项大型演出活动，如新加坡艺术节、亚细安舞蹈节、国庆大汇演、妆艺大游行等。舞蹈教材与创作通过传统儒家思想基本概念，融入舞蹈中，丰富了学员们的学习内容。2004 年，聚舞坊成立一支专业的舞团－当代艺团，在聚舞坊当代艺团艺术顾问严众莲，舞蹈总监卢雪萍带领与指引，并由创意总监蔡适吉与节目总监吴燕丹的执行下，秉着“建校养团, 办团扬校”, 努力拓展其舞蹈
领域，创另一个创新与融汇贯通的平台，促成当代艺团走向更专业的表演舞台。
当代艺团曾连续六年受邀参加韩国清州国际舞蹈节（2012-2017），第二届中国新疆国际民族舞蹈节（2011），韩国大田艺术节（2013），出访国家包括土耳其、法国、西班牙、纽西兰、中国、台湾、日本、美国、加拿大、德国、韩国、印度、柬埔寨、泰国、澳门、香港和马来西亚等。近年来，舞团积极推广“南洋舞蹈风格”并在 2014 年新加坡国
庆日群众大会上被李显龙总理高度赞扬其创意与舞蹈风格，对传承本土南洋华族文化的贡献予以肯定，聚舞坊独特的新舞风为南洋华族舞蹈开创新篇章。舞团的另一佳作,《纹传》也在 2015 年被亚洲新闻台独家报道，并也于同年被选到韩国舞蹈节表演。

1993
Founding of Dance Ensemble Singapore (DES)
Founded by Mdm Yan Choong Lian, our ensemble began its journey with Mdm Yan’s expertise in Chinese Dance form to the forefront in Singapore.
2004
Establishing of DES Arts Company
Under the steadfast and able directive of Mdm Yan, the establishment of the company enable us to scout and retain talents locally and globally.
2020
Recipient of Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat)
Our Founder, Mdm Yan was presented with a National Day award in regonition for her utmost dedicated contribution to the local arts scene.
