DES Arts Education Programme (AEP)
The Arts Education Programme (AEP) is an initiative by the National Arts Council (NAC) with the aim of providing all students in local MOE schools with access to quality arts education experiences. In support of this initiative and to promote local arts and culture to strengthen Singapore’s cultural identity, Dance Ensemble Singapore (DES) offers the following programmes:
- Performance (physical): Colours of Nanyang showcases the vibrant Peranakan culture through dances infused with the ‘Nanyang style’. Beaded embroideries, peranakan porcelains, colourful costumes, and other cultural elements introduce audiences to the distinctive style of the Straits Chinese and allow them to appreciate and understand Chinese performing arts and the culture that constitutes Singapore’s diverse and vibrant heritage.
- Workshop: Exploring Traditional and Contemporary Chinese Dance is a 2-day Chinese Dance workshop that increases understanding of the art form through videos and practical lessons. Participants learn and experience traditional and contemporary Chinese dance styles, aided by props such as traditional Chinese fans.
