Dance Ensemble Singapore (DES) was founded in July 1993 with the aim to present multi-faceted Chinese dances and to spread cultural messages infused in Chinese arts and culture and groom the next generation of Chinese Arts practitioners by offering dance and martial arts classes.

In 2004, DES established a professional Contemporary-Chinese Dance division, DES Arts. At the helm of Mdm Yan Choong Lian (Artistic Advisor), Sharon Low (Dance Director), Cai Shiji (Artistic Director), and Goh Yan Dan (Creative Director), DES Arts actively strives for opportunities to diversify its artistic scope for creative mastery in the development of DES Arts and its journey towards the international stage.

DES Arts has been actively promoting the ‘Nanyang’ Style of Chinese Dance. The subsidiary was highly commended by Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, during the 2014 National Day Rally for its innovative interpretation and style, as well as for unceasing efforts in pushing boundaries in the local arts and cultural scene.

Dance Ensemble Singapore Ltd is supported by the National Arts Council under the Major Company Scheme for the period from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2025.

新加坡聚舞坊成立于1993年，聚集了多类别舞蹈于一坊的舞蹈团与舞蹈学院，舞蹈教材与创作通过传统儒家思想基本概念，融入舞蹈教育与表演中, 丰富了学员们的学习内容。

2004年，聚舞坊成立一支专业的舞团－当代艺团，在聚舞坊当代艺团艺术顾问严众莲，舞蹈总监卢雪萍带领与指引，并由艺术总监蔡適吉，节目总监吴燕丹的执行下，秉着“建校养团, 办团扬校“, 努力拓展其舞蹈领域，走向更专业的表演舞台。舞团积极推广“南洋舞蹈风格”并在2014年新加坡国庆日群众大会上被李显龙总理高度赞扬其创意舞蹈风格,对传承本土南洋华族文化的贡献予以肯定。聚舞坊传承本土南洋华族文化，为华族舞蹈开创新篇章。

Timeless Chronicles is of special significance as it is a testament to Dance Ensemble Singapore’s (DES) 30 years of creativity. The re-imagining of seven remarkable works by a new generation of DES Arts dance artistes, Pang Xinyi, Cheng Guo, Zhu Fang Yi, Wang Xue Dan Yang, Ou Yang and Gong Wen Xuan, marks the new creative vision of these young, talented artistes that DES has nurtured. My heartiest congratulations to DES as it has embarked on this wonderful new production, led by Mdm Cai Shiji and Mdm Goh Yan Dan.

I also congratulate the DES Arts team on their successful performances in Jinjiang, China earlier this month, which included the premiere of contemporary Chinese dance work, “The Story of Nanyang at Jinjiang” at Jinjiang Gao Jia Theatre.

Diverse talents converging on the same stage is always a testament to how the arts can bring people together. Together with our Singapore artists Mdm Nancy Teo and Mr Luo Wei, as well as Quanzhou master puppeteers Mr Huang Jiang Yi and Mdm Yan Li Li, the audiences can look forward to an exciting performance of puppetry and dance. I look forward to more of such collaborations that will enrich our arts sector and connect Singapore to the world.

I wish the DES team a successful performance that celebrates the power of the arts in bringing diverse cultures and people together, and the continued success and growth for DES in the next 30 years and beyond.

欣赏了聚舞坊去年 9 月在滨海艺术中心举办的 30 周年纪念演出后，我非常高兴地听到舞团又开始了另一项新的创作。聚舞坊团队在蔡適吉和吴燕丹领导下，秉持着不懈的精力和热忱将舞蹈艺术传播到海外。

在 2024 年 3 月 10 日，他们在中国晋江的演出取得了圆满成功，呈现了土生华人舞蹈与文化，并在晋江高甲剧院首演了当代舞专场《南洋舞起在晋江》，让当地观众惊叹不已。
在这场《引经聚点》的新作中，彭心怡、程果、王雪丹扬、欧阳、龚文轩、朱芳逸六位资深舞者，重新演绎了七部出色的作品，从中更能见证聚舞坊30年辉煌成绩，并体验聚舞坊培养年轻艺术家的成果。

我热烈欢迎泉州木偶大师黄江毅先生和颜丽丽女士来到新加坡，期待看到提线木偶和舞蹈的大胆创作。著名书法家张丽兰女士和小提琴家罗威的合作参与，也让观众有视与听觉的全新体验。

Mdm Yan Choong Lian has always been playing an active role as an arts educator to promote dance in the community and to nurture young talents. Her passion and talent in dance together with her capabilities and commitments have led to the founding of Yan Choong Lian Dance Troupe in 1988, and subsequently the establishment of Dance Ensemble Singapore in 7 July 1993. Thereafter in 2004, a contemporary Chinese dance company was established, known as DES Arts.

For her lifelong dedication towards upgrading the professionalism of dance in Singapore, she was conferred the National Youth Award in 1983 and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Singapore Foundation Award in 1994.

In recent years, DES Arts has been actively promoting the ‘Nanyang’ Style of Chinese Dance. The subsidiary was highly commended by Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, during the 2014 National Day Rally for its innovative interpretation and style, as well as unceasing efforts in pushing boundaries in the local arts and cultural scene.

Sharon Low trained at DES at a young age and was selected into Martha Graham Academy of Arts (U.S.A.), graduating in 1998 with excellent results. As a pioneer of DES, she has groomed many young talents and actively choreographs for the company. Currently, she is DES’ Dance Director.

Worked with renowned choreographers like Pearl Lang (USA), Kunyang Lin (USA), Zeynep Tanbay (USA), Virginie Merce (USA), Kevin Predmore (USA), John Mead (USA), Gideon Obarzanek (Australia).

 师承聚舞坊创办人严众莲老师 ，卢雪萍1998年毕业自美国纽约玛莎葛兰姆艺术学院。目前为聚舞坊舞蹈总监。

Shiji’s passion for dancing resonated at a young age. As a child, she trained with DES Arts and later became a professional artiste. In 2009, she received the NAC Arts Bursary (Overseas) to pursue a ‘Masters in Choreography (Dance)’ at Purchase State College, New York, where she was awarded a choreography award for outstanding graduation results. Her graduation pieces were selected and performed at the Haiti Fund Raising Performance and at New York’s Dumbo Dance Festival. Upon returning to Singapore, she pursued a career in dance and is currently DES Arts Artistic Director.

Worked with renowned choreographers like Kunyang Lin (USA), John Mead (USA), Gideon Obarzanek (Australia), Kevin Thomas (USA), Roh Hyun Sik (Korea), Ying Er Ding (Hong Kong, China), Zhang Yi (Hong Kong, China).

 自小跟随母亲严众莲学舞，2009年毕业自美国纽约普切斯艺术大学（编导硕士）。2010年取得普切斯学院的最佳编导奖。目前为当代艺团艺术总监，为当代艺团南洋舞蹈风之主要推手。

Yan Dan began her dance journey with DES. She completed her professional dance training with the company and continued to pursue a full-time career in dance. As a performer, Yan Dan has represented DES in both local and overseas performances. Her diverse experiences as choreographer, dancer and teacher bring refreshing perspectives to her creations. Yan Dan is currently DES Arts Creative Director.

A Fujian Quanzhou native, he apprenticed under the master puppeteer Lin Wenrong and has been in the art for 17 years, constantly exploring innovation in the dissemination of puppetry. He has participated in Fujian Province tourism promotion events in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and other places, allowing more people to experience the charm of puppetry.

Awarded the title of “Traditional Handicraft Celebrity at the 4th Quanzhou Arts and Crafts Master Competition”. In 2022, participated in the shooting of the Zhejiang TV variety show “Wonderful Roadway.” Invited as a guest performer for the Fast Hand NBA online live broadcast. In 2023, invited by the production team of  “Strange Things in the Mountains” to shoot at the Hengdian Studios in Zhejiang. In January 2024, invited to appear in the documentary “Quanzhou Revisited” featuring intangible cultural heritage puppetry and participated in the shooting of the CCTV program “Star Recommendation.”

福建泉州人，师从泉州提线木偶大师林文荣，从艺17年，在木偶戏的传播上不断地摸索创新，曾多次参加港澳、 新加坡等地福建省旅游推介会，让更多的人感受到木偶戏的魅力。

荣获第四届泉州工艺美术大师传统手工艺名人。2022年，参与浙江卫视综艺节目《美好的星城》拍摄, 同年受邀快手NBA线上直播表演嘉宾。2023年，受《山野异事卷贰》剧组的邀请来到浙江横店拍摄剧目。2024年1月，受邀出镜上城士《又见泉州》非遗提线木偶戏拍摄和参与央视《星推荐》节目拍摄

Yan Lili began her studies in puppetry at Quanzhou School of Arts in 2006, specializing in string puppetry. During her time there, she represented the school in numerous performances across different regions and countries. After graduating, she worked as a teacher in the string puppetry department of the school. Subsequently, she joined the Quanzhou Puppetry Troupe, participating in rehearsals and performances of plays such as “Mountain Flame” and “Lu Junyi.”

In 2011, she participated in the 10th Fujian Drama Narcissus Awards competition and won a performance award for her portrayal of Su Ruolan in “Brocade.” She also appeared in the film “The Gathering of Deities” directed by Ye Qian and participated in puppetry performances for “Mountain and Wilderness Strange Events Volume II.”

Furthermore, she took part in the “Puppetry Classics Collection” performance at the 10th Wuzhen Theatre Festival’s Ancient Town Carnival section.

2006年就读于泉州艺术学校提线木偶戏专业。期间多次代表学校出访各地区和国家演出，毕业后任职学校提线木偶专业教师，随后进入泉州木偶剧团，参与排练演出《火焰山》《卢俊义》等。

Luo Wei is a violinist and full-time instructor at kids’ philharmonic@sg, as well as an assistant teacher of Qian Zhou at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. In his early days, before middle school, he studied the violin with Ding Zhi Nuo, a professor of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Upon entry into middle school, he was taken under the tutelage of Huang Chen Xing, Head of Strings Department of his middle school (affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music), and Zheng Shi Sheng, professor of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied for 6 years.

Thereafter, Luo Wei received a full scholarship to study with Qian Zhou, Head of the Strings Department at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore, and is now a holder of a Graduate Diploma from the conservatory.

Luo Wei is vastly experienced in performing, having participated in many performances around the world. From 2004 to 2010, Luo Wei participated in a series of violin concerts every semester, held by Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, as well as masterclasses at the Esplanade held by Ning Feng, Cho Liang Lin, Ding Zhi Nuo and David Takeno. Luo Wei was awarded the special prize of National University of Singapore in 2005, as well as the third prize of Singapore’s National Piano and Violin Competition in the same year.

罗威是新加坡少儿爱乐交响乐团的小提琴手和全职导师。罗威现于杨秀桃音乐学院任钱舟教授的助理教师。早年，在中学之前，于上海音乐学院跟随丁芷诺教授学习小提琴。进入上海音乐学院附属中等音乐专科学校后，他跟随上海音乐学院弦乐主管黄晨星教授和郑石生教授学习小提琴达六年之久。

及后，罗威获得全额奖学金，到新加坡杨秀桃音乐学院跟随弦乐系主任钱周教授学习，并取得杨秀桃音乐学院研究生文凭。

罗威在表演方面经验丰富，曾于世界各地参与多场演出。2004至2010年间，罗威每学期均参加由杨秀桃音乐学院举办的一系列小提琴音乐会，以及曾参与小提琴家宁峰，林昭亮，丁芷诺和David Takeno于滨海艺术中心举办的小提琴大师班。罗威于2005年获得新加坡国立大学特别奖，同年获得新加坡国家钢琴与小提琴比赛三等。

Teo Li Lan studied under the late Mr. Tsue Ta Tee, a first-generation calligraphy master in Singapore. In 2019, she held a personal calligraphy exhibition at the Arts House, concurrently publishing the deluxe edition collection “Ink Dance,” which included 81 pieces of her exhibited works. She has also been invited to participate in exhibitions both domestically and internationally. Her works are rich and diverse, including seal script, clerical script, regular script, running script, and cursive script, with various forms. She skilfully leverages the characteristics of different brushes, the traits of different script styles, and the multi-layered changes in ink tones to freely express her unique artistic style. Art originates from life. In recent years, she has focused on creative calligraphy, infusing powerful vitality between the lines, creating a profound artistic conception that is reminiscent of both painting and calligraphy, blending ink and water, and evoking boundless imagination.

曾就读于华义中学，师从已故新加坡第一代书法家崔大地先生。1974年毕业，同年崔先生去世，就此停笔。

40年后，于2015年，丽兰重回书法怀抱。2017年开始，她积极参与海内外展览，包括：中国、迪拜及韩国等地。2019年，丽兰举办个人书法展，同时出版精装版个人书法作品集，收录展览中的81幅多种书体作品。 

书法不仅是书墨笔法，丽兰的创作内容多反映其人生观及贴近生活的诉求，着墨时思想感情跃然纸上。
